I am not sure about you, but when I hop onto a video call I try to pay attention to anything that might show up in the background. With more and more people attending classes or holding meetings virtually from home, this has become a common challenge. Fortunately, applications like Zoom have features which allow us to block out our background. I sometimes come across pages that offer backgrounds that you can download and use during your video calls. This week, I came across a resource which offered Star Wars-themed backgrounds.
This got me thinking about how so many of us are stuck at home, and I began to think about how much nicer it would be to show a familiar landmark from home in a video instead of somewhere predictable like a tropic beach, or mountain range. So, this week I took pictures of some of Shepherd’s more notable locations so that I could make them available for download. Now, you can fool your co-worker, boss, or teacher by making them think that you are somewhere in the community when you are really at home.
But, there are a lot of other places that people might miss, and other places that I might not have access to. So, I am inviting readers to send in photos from their surroundings, whether its in front of a favorite church or school, on campus, or in a park. Or, if you can, submit an interior shot of your restaurant or business, so people can choose it as their background when they jump into a call.
Photos can be submitted via the “Share News” link in the main navigation. Or, send them via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. They should be original works and will be shared with the community.
