The saga of the cautionary water boil advisory which was declared for the Village of Shepherd on Saturday came to a close today with news that the “all clear” had been declared based on the results of the second test. As posted on the Village of Shepherd Facebook page:
“Effective Immediately we have the ALL CLEAR on the boil water advisory! This is not uncommon for this to have happened with this type of water project and may possibly occur again during this ongoing project. The Village is working on a better notification system if an URGENT notice would be required. Thank you all for your patience and those who had kind words during this event.”
So here are some things that we learned over the last four days:
- Boiling water before you use it is actually very time consuming and somewhat of a pain. Note: this isn’t something that I learned first hand, but instead by observing my wife’s reaction.
- It takes a while to test water, so be prepared for school to possibly be cancelled. Luckily, the advisory started on a Saturday, giving us a bit of a grace period, but it was a challenge making arrangements for Monday.
- Even though I knew that I shouldn’t be ingesting the water, there were times when I impulsively wet my toothbrush under the faucet, told myself a couple of drops won’t kill me, and brushed my teeth anyways.
