Water Boiling Advisory for the Village of Shepherd

This entry is part 1 of 4 in the series Shepherd Water Boiling Notice

Just as I sat down and tried to decide what I was going to write about first, my iPhone started to ding with a water boil advisory for the Village of Shepherd. We’re advised to boil any water that we drink, cook with, or use to wash our dishes until we’re told to stop. Well, this is definitely going to put a kink in things, because I’m just so reliant on the fact that I can trust the water that comes out of our faucet. My wife is stopping on her way home to pick up bottled water from the store.

On one hand, this is a huge pain. On the other hand, it’s kind of exciting that we’ll have to do things a little more old-fashioned, like we’re suddenly living in an episode of “Little House on the Prairie.” Maybe tomorrow I’ll shave with a straight razor, just to heighten the illusion that we’re suddenly in the early 1900’s. I mean, I’ll still turn on the lights, drive to the store, and use indoor plumbing. I’m just talking about not being able to take running water for granted.

But, thank goodness we can still use our dishwasher!

But, seriously, we’re under a water boil advisory. Here’s the statement.
